Elizabeth
Akehurst
Has exhibited regularly in galleries in Medway,
Canterbury, Maidstone and
Whitstable, with exhibitions in Norfolk. Currently
the South East Open
Studios Area Co-ordinator for Medway.
Largely self-taught, although was a student at the
Open College of Arts and attended a variety of classes and workshops.
Originally studied Mathematics at the University of
Kent in 1972, and then as a post-graduate student at King’s College
Cambridge and the universities of Manchester and Newcastle, between 1972
and 1976. Associate Lecturer in
Mathematics with the Open University for a number
of years.
Painting has always been a preoccupation and
practised alongside mathematics. Over time this has become the chief
interest and main work.
Paintings
are mainly in oils and water colour with ink and collage, with subjects
drawn from everyday life, landscapes and objects. |
