Elizabeth Akehurst

Has exhibited regularly in galleries in Medway, Canterbury, Maidstone and

Whitstable, with exhibitions in Norfolk. Currently the South East Open

Studios Area Co-ordinator for Medway.

Largely self-taught, although was a student at the Open College of Arts and attended a variety of classes and workshops.

Originally studied Mathematics at the University of Kent in 1972, and then as a post-graduate student at King’s College Cambridge and the universities of Manchester and Newcastle, between 1972 and 1976. Associate Lecturer in

Mathematics with the Open University for a number of years.

Painting has always been a preoccupation and practised alongside mathematics. Over time this has become the chief interest and main work.
