Paula Groves
“The majority of the
material I use in my work is reclaimed mild and stainless steel. It has a story
to tell, showing its history in its form and the dents, marks and scars that it
bears. In working like this, inspiration comes from the metal itself; the shape
it already has, or how I can enhance it. Purity of form is a passion for me; the
circle, square and triangle are recurring themes in my work.
In addition to this, I look at outside sources and take visual references from
these, which work well for site-specific projects. Also the benefit of this is
when I get shapes made for me I can then use my own scrap material for further
work."
Paula's previous commissions include sculptures for facilities such as Diamond
Light Source, trophies for the Medway Small Business awards and the Medway Boat
Race, and a sculpture to count down the days to the 2012 Olympics.
