Introduction by Billy Childish
A successful portrait, indeed successful painting, must to some degree
reveal something of the invisible. The more of the soul comes through in
the work - or is exposed due to the artist ability to get out of the way
of the damn painting - the better. True painting is poetry; my poetry is
of a broad confessional nature - dragging heaven and hell together. The
better the painting the less it will be casually admired by brittle and
rational minds. But the poetic self can get it.
